The assessment of diploid cells in G0/G1 cell cycle-phases in ovarian cancer tissue by flow cytometry

Abstract

A quantitative assessment of the diploid cell fraction in G0/G1 phases of cell cycle was performed by flow cytometry method (60 surgery specimens of ovarian cancer stage III). It was shown that the distribution of tumoral diploid cell numbers in G0/G1 was widely dispersed, from 27 up to 95% with the median of 73%. Significant differences between tumor samples of patients sensitive to the first line platinum/taxanes chemotherapy and patients resistant to it were observed (p = 0,002). The predictive value of G0/G1 fraction has been concluded, quantitative assessment of the fraction is recommended for clinical usage.
Key words: fraction of diploid cells G0/G1, predictive value, platinum/taxanes chemotherapy, ovarian cancer, recurrence period, flow cytometry.
