Molecular mechanisms of drug resistance in MCF7/ADR BREAST CANCER CELLS

Abstract

It was revealed differences between expression of vimentin and P-gp in sensitive MCF7 and resistant MCF7/ADR cells thus demonstrating the “coexistence” of two drug resistance mechanisms in MCF7/ADR cells. Mesenchymal phenotype of epithelial cells contributes significantly to resistance mechanism in comparison with overexpression of the ABC-transporter the difference in vimentin expression levels between sensitive and resistant cell cultures is substantially higher compared with the difference in P-gp expression levels..
Key words: MCF7, MCF7/ADR, breast cancer cell cultures, drug resistance, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, vimentin, P-gp, flow cytometry.
