Synthesis, crystal structure and thermodynamic functions of new compounds GeSnSb4Te8

Abstract

For the first time the quaternary compounds GeSnSb4Te8 formed in GeSnSb2Te4 – SnSb2Te4 system at a ratio of GeSnSb2Te4 : SnSb2Te4 = 1:1 have been studied by the various physical-chemical methods involving thermodynamic calculations in a wide temperature range. The compound GeSnSb4Te8 congruently melts at 950 K. The enthalpy of formation, standard entropy, and isobaric heat capacity of this compound consists ΔH2980 = –254,3 kJoule·mol–1, S2980 = 787,2 Joule·mol–1·K–1, cp,2980 = 342,6 joule·mol–1·K–1. Single crystals GeSnSb4Te8 have been obtained by the method of chemical transport reactions (HTR). The parameters of the unit cell of the compound GeSnSb4Te8, crystallizing in the orthorhombic system: a = 4,92 Å; b = 9,70 Å; c = 11,28 Å with space group Pnnm, V = 837,44 Å3; Z = 2 have been defined.
