Cryochemical modification of drugs: nanosized form III of piroxicam and its physico-chemical properties

Abstract

By using dynamic sublimation in a stream of heated carrier gas and low temperature condensation is carried out structurally –nanoscale modification of anti-inflammatory drug substances 4-hydroxy-2-methyl-N-(2-pyridinyl)-2H-1,2-benzothiazin-3-carboxamide 1,1-dioxide (piroxicam). Thus obtained samples correspond to the known thermodynamically metastable form III of piroxicam. The average size of the particles of the drug are dmid = 300±30 nm. Obtained nanoform of piroxicam does not undergo structural and aggregation transformations for at least four years.
Key words: organic nanoparticles, cryochemical modification, polymorphism of drugs, crystal modifications, piroxicam.
