Ion-chromatographic behavior of anions on silica-based polyelectrolyte anion exchangers

Abstract

Polyelectrolyte anion exchangers based on commercially available non-sulfonated silicas Silasorb 600 and Kromasil modified with quaternized poly(4-vinylpyridine) are proposed. The obtained anion exchangers based on Kromasil allow the simultaneous separation of 10 anions (CH3COO, HCOO, BrO3, Cl, NO2, NO3, I, SCN, ClO4, SO42–) in 20 minutes and demonstrate high efficiency (up to 30 000 tp/m for NO3-) in the single column ion chromatography mode with indirect UV-detection using potassium hydrogen phthalate as an eluent.
Key words: polyelectrolyte anion exchangers, ion chromatography, silica, poly(4-vinylpyridine), determination of anions.
