The influence of hydrophilic ionic liquid nature on catalytic activity of horseradish and soybean peroxidases

Abstract

The kinetics of quaiacol oxidation with hydrogen peroxide and tert-butylhydroperoxide catalyzed by horseradish and soybean peroxidases in the presence of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate, tetrafluoroborates of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium and N-butyl-4-methylpyridinium has been studied and compared. The noncompetitive inhibition of acetate ionic liquid on both peroxidases was found; the Michaelis and inhibition constants for reactions were calculated. The reasons for different degree of inhibition of catalytic activities of plant peroxidases by ionic liquids are discussed. The advantages of ionic liquids in comparison with polar molecular organic solvents are shown.
Key words: hydrophilic ionic liquids, horseradish and soybean peroxidases, catalytic activity, kinetics.
