The study of interactions in the trifluoroacetic acid-sulphur dioxide systems by IR spectroscopy

Abstract

The structure of intermediates formed upon sulphur dioxide’s oxidation by oxygen in trifluoroacetic acid of varying concentration has been studied by multiple frustrated total internal reflection (FTIR) IR spectroscopy at 30°C. The formation of a sulphur dioxide-trifluoroacetic acid complex, participating in the oxygenation, has been established for the systems that contain 99.9% and 55.5% of trifluoroacetic acid.
