Spectrophotometric determination of sulfonamides by condensation reaction with n-Dimethylaminocinnaroic aldehyde

Abstract

p-Dimethylaminocinnaroic aldehyde has been suggested as a spectrophotometric reagent for the determination of sulfonamides. It has been shown that this reagent enter into a condensation reaction with sulfanilamide, sulfamethoxypyridazin, sulfachlorpyridazine, sulfamethoxasole and sulfamethazine to form coloured products. The optimum conditions for the condensation reaction of sulfonamides with p-dimethylaminocinnaroic aldehyde have been found. Spectrophotometric method for the determination of sulfonamides with detection limits n×10–2мg mL-1 has been developed. Sulfamethoxasole and sulfamethazine have been determined in some pharmaceutical products.
