The application of Raman spectroscopy for control of connective tissues under IR laser irradiation

Abstract

Raman spectra of intact and treated by medium intensity IR laser radiation samples of cartilage and fibrous connective tissues (FCT) are presented in this article. It was shown that a main difference between spectra of cartilage and FCT is observed in the region of piranose circles’ vibrations (960-1175cM’). Changes of relative intensities and frequencies of Amid 1 and III bands at different humidity and after laser treatment are discussed. A difference between Raman spectra of intact and irradiated by laser tissue samples is related to the collagen denaturation and to the change of the conformational state of polysaccharides chains.
