Quasiclassical approximation for elastic collision frequency at low temperatures

Abstract

For the Lennard–Jones potential in the quasiclassical approximation, the expression for the elastic collision frequency was obtained as an expansion over reduced temperature T*. The zero approximation (T* ® 0) takes account only of the influence of an attractive part of potential as the first approximation is concerned with the influence of a potential depth. For the temperatures of interest in the supersonic jet expansion, it was shown that calculation of the collision frequency can be limited in the zero approximation.
