Effect of the Captured Electrons on the Emissive Moessbauer Spectra

Abstract

The resonance lines observed in source experiments are significantly broader than in the correspononding absorber experiments. To explain this phenomenon the model of trapped electron was proposed. Auger electrons emitted after electron capture of Co57 and also secondary electrons may be trapped in the vicinity of the nucleogenic iron. Asymmetrical distribution of quadrupole splittings in emission Mцssbauer spectra is result of electron capture by lattice traps situated at different distances from the iron ion. The estimates of quadrupole splitting due to trapped electrons support the above-mentioned model.
