An Investigation of Retention and Separation Abilities of Silica Modified by Low-Molecular Weight Chitosan as a New Chiral Selector

Abstract

Adsorption of low-molecular weight chitosan on silica and silica treated by Ca(NO3)2 and Cu(NO3)2 was studied. Maximum adsorption of chitosan for unmodified silica was obtained. Retention of various compounds such as amines, aminophenols, nitrophenols, nitroanilines, nitrobenzene, benzene, tert-butylbenzene, naphthalene, antracene on chitosan and chitin coated silica was investigated. It was established that coated silica retention ability increases for more polar substances and less polar mobile phases. The ability to separate of enantiomers on chitosan coated silica was examined
